Yau studied "Economics'' in university because she wanted to be a bank after graduation, but without regrets about becoming a DJ instead.

Yau came to notice after appearing in several TV commercials, and working with a range of broadcasters, including Commercial Radio, TVB and Metro Broadcast.

She said that she would like to introduce radio listeners a variety of good music and pop news from around the world.

How and when did you start your DJ career?
I am grateful for the kindness of Ocean Chan Hoi-kei, a veteran DJ, who currently is a programme presenter on RTHK Radio 2, gave me an opportunity to be a DJ at Metro Broadcast in 1994 when I came back to Hong Kong after I graduated from the University of Winnipeg in Canada.

Have you always wanted to be a DJ?
No! I just wanted to be a teacher, air-hostess or banker when I was a child. I never thought of being a DJ.

How was campus life in Canada?
Campus life in Canada was unforgettable. It was happy and carefree.

I majored in "Economics'' at the University of Winnipeg there. Honestly, I initially intended to become a banker after graduation, so that's why I majored in the subject. Nevertheless, I have no regrets about choosing DJ as my career.

What jobs did you do before taking up DJ career?
I didn't do any part-time or summer jobs while at university in Canada, but in the first year after I graduated and returned to Hong Kong, I worked as a hotel concierge for a short period, and then I came across Ocean Chan, she gave me a chance to be a DJ. I have to thank you her, because she taught and edified me a lot.

What are the differences between Hong Kong and Canada?
I think the air, the working tempo and lifestyle are the main differences between Hong Kong and Canada, especially as Hong Kong's air is heavily polluted. I remember while coming back to Hong Kong, I was uncomfortable because of the stuffy, hazy and noisy environment.

I think it is imperative for our Government to fasten its steps to stop polluting our environment. The Government should regulate if any loopholes on the lawful ordinance to ban the factories/firms from polluting the sea, land and air. Otherwise, it not only hazards to our health, but also our next generations.

How would you describe your life as a DJ?
I lead a colorful life. Every day is very challenging. I expect various challenges lie ahead, because there are still plenty of things for me to learn.

As I am easily satisfied and happy, having a job that I enjoy and I can make friends with different walks of life is good enough.

Do you consider your current job as a life-long career?
I really don't know. I have not pondered on this question. Honestly it doesn't matter if my current job is my life-long career. At least, I still enjoy as a DJ working in a studio and talking to the microphone. It is fun.

Anyway, I just want to work hard in my job. If possible, I would like to learn something valuable to fulfill myself. At present, besides dealing with the DJ workload, I am also shooting a TV commercial and a traveling program. I have just finished to act in a TVB costume drama.

Do you like to surf the internet? How often is it?
Yes, I do. I surf the internet every day, because it broadens my scope of music knowledge.

Being a DJ, acquiring knowledge of different genres of music and gaining informative music-related news is a must. Internet, TV, music magazines are the good channels to meet the mentioned above, especially "internet''. It is the most convenient way to keep pace with the avant-garde world of music.

Can you describe your ideal boyfriend? Would you mind if your future husband was much older than you?
Honestly, for me "Age'' is not a barrier if we are able to communicate with each other. Hence, I do not mind if my future husband is much older than me if we love each other deeply.

My ideal boyfriend must be independent and diligent. Once again, the important thing I must consider is whether we can communicate with each other. I don't care if he is rich, yellow-skinned or handsome.

When would you like to get married?
"Marriage'' is the desire of every girl, but I don't know when I will get married. At this stage, my career is my top priority as I am still young. I am sure that I would carry on working even though I was married because I would like to treasure my life (now is my golden time) to learn and experience different things.

What is the most unforgettable event in your career?
The most unforgettable event in my career was the first day I hosted the radio program "Air-Hostess'' for Metro Broadcast on June 20, 1994. I remember that as I was edgy, I went to the toilet and recited the drafts many times before the program went on air, but eventually, I got tongue-tied and hand-shaken.

What do you think of the behavior of the paparazzi?
Yes, they are. I dislike them because some are very inconsiderate and unreasonable. However, at the same time, I am also worried about their safety. Once, I was chased by a car when I drove back home, the paparazzi driver drove the car too close to mine. You know, it was very dangerous. I was afraid there would be an accident, but luckily nothing happened.

Actually, it is great if the paparazzi can be more self-disciplined, because showbiz artists also have their own private life. This is definitely unnecessary to reveal everything to the general of public. I am not afraid of the paparazzi because I have nothing to hide, but I just worry about the safety of both sides.

Recently, I heard of a news concerning a proposal on "Offence of Harassment'' by the Law Reform Commission is being considered to be a new legislation which I strongly support because I think it, to a certain extent, can help us to safeguard against the intrusive behavior of the paparazzi. Isn't it?

What is your advice to Hong Kong's youths?
Youths should be energetic and enjoy life. Recently, I heard that young people easily committed suicide just over something trivial.

"Life'' is very precious, it is absolutely not worth doing something so stupid. Those who kill themselves leave the grief to their family and friends. Thus, please don't be silly and think positively. Life is full of hopes.
